John Lucas

Chief Advocate of Combat Veterans Outreach Group & Community Activist

Mr. Lucas served in the U. S. Army from 1967 – 1970. He is a disabled veteran who strongly advocates for all veteran rights and justice.  His forces are to assure veterans receive one hundred percent of their earned and deserved benefits.  His community outreach work is through numerous organizations.

The Wilson Combat Veterans Outreach Group has over 75 members, who take pride in assisting veterans with transportation to and from medical facilities, coordinating veteran visits to veteran service offices; and feeding the hungry.  Mr. Lucas has been an active member in the group since 2000.

He is passionate about his work seeking and helping homeless veterans. Through his association with the Wilson Residential Veterans Organization, John has served on the board of directors since 2014. Through his unwavering dedication, countless numbers of veterans have been afforded the opportunity to reset their lives.

Mr. Lucas is a member of the North Carolina (NC) National Association of the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), Wilson Branch where he serves as the liason between the Armed Services and Veteran Affairs (ASVA), Wilson Branch and the state Committee, NC NAACP ASVA.

In addition, Mr. Lucas is a member of the Pitt County Veterans Council (PCVC), the East Coast Veterans Council (ECVC), Veteran of Foreign Wars (VFW) and Disabled Veteran (DAV), and has been President of his neighborhood homeowner’s association, since 1979.

In September 2023, Mr. Lucas joined the group, Arms Around Wilson, which along with the National League of Citizens, helps under privileged citizens with rent and utility assistance.
