Timothy D. Wilson - U.S. Navy Veteran
Timothy D. Wilson is a Brooklyn, New York native now living in North Carolina. He served in the United States Navy as SONAR Technician (Ground) under the Advanced Electronic Pipeline where he serviced and repaired surface ship electronic gear at sea and pier side. He served as Workcenter Supervisor on both the USS Hayler DD-997 (Spruance Class Destroyer) and USS Lake Champlain CG-57 (Aegis Class Cruiser) where he was assigned and led two of the most successful teams on technicians at Norfolk Naval Base in Norfolk, VA and at 32nd Street Naval Base in San Diego, CA.
Tim served the United States Navy for a little over 10 years before being honorably discharged to persue and Advanced Electronics Technician career at SONY Electronics in Rancho Bernardo, California where he was the Shift Lead and Technician with 42 people working under his leadership. He was afforded the opportunity to attend several schools to include OMRON Robotic School (I and II) and leadership programs while at SONY. With all of the trainging he had received, Tim was able to persue one of his dreams of being an Entrepreneur where opened his first Technology Center called TDWIL Systems. Over a course of four years, Tim trained 29 interns for real-world IT Support and Computer Repair that enabled them to obtain employment at some of the most reputable technology companies in San Diego.
After being separated nearly 10 years from the military, Tim was approached by a VSO while at the VA Hospitalin San Diego who encouraged him to apply for his benefits and provided valuable information on how to get the process started. Because of the information provided by the VSO, Tim was able to obtain the benefits he had earned and deserved. It was at that point, Tim embarked on a journey to pay it forward by assisting Veterans with information to obtain the benefits they earned and deserve just as a VSO did for him. Tim also was a member of Athletes for Education where he served at the Technology Advisor and provided over 50 computer systems to battered women and children shelters throughout San Diego.
In 2005, Tim decided to move back East to North Carolina where he would be closer to his mother and his fiance whom he married in 2006. Shortly after moving back in 2005, Tim purchased a Managed IT Services firm in Research Triangle Park called SnowFin Corporation where he and his six full-time employees serviced companies all over North Carolina and London, England. In 2010, unfortunatedly due to the economic crisis, Tim had to close the doors of SnowFin but went to work for a nonprofit that focused on Teachers and Education Advancement.
By 2018, Tim retired but continued his endeavors of helping Veterans with information on obtaining their benefits. He now serves as the North Carolina NAACP Armed Services and Veterans Affairs (ASVA) Benefits Chair where he has been able to continue his passion for helping Veterans.
Tim has been blessed to achieve another one of his dreams of helping children. He’s always stated, “We must engage our Youth and change their mindset and what better way to do that than letting them explore their creativity?” In 2021, Tim formed Square Knot Kids, Inc., a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit with a mission to Engage Youth Through The Arts.
