Joie R. Cook - NC Air National Guard

Joie Cook was born in Savannah, GA on Hunter Army Airfield Army Base. As the daughter of a Marine Corps officer, she grew up on various military bases in Hawaii, Georgia, Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. She served in the North Carolina Army National Guard from 1998 to 2002, while simultaneously attending St. Augustine University in Raleigh, NC. In 2003, she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. She worked in security services and served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves from 2006 to 2009.

She worked as an educator in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System from 2008 to 2015. She enlisted in North Carolina Air National Guard in 2013 and currently continues to serve with 145th NC Air National Guard. After leaving the school system, she served as a veteran counselor at Goodwill of the Southern Piedmont, until 2021.

In 2009, Joie founded Support Her B.O.O.T.S., a nonprofit focused on meeting the employment educational, housing, and other everyday needs of veterans with a particular focus on female veterans. Support Her B.O.O.T.S. has helped provide housing, transportation, clothes, food, childcare, utilities assistance, and personal hygiene products for veterans in need. Over the duration of its existence Support Her B.O.O.T.S. has coordinated the work of over 80 volunteers. Since 2014 she has also entertained over 1500 attendees, 500 vendors/exhibitors, and 20 speakers at her SoldierFestival event. The SoldierFestival is an annual event dedicated to bringing resources, information and awareness to US veterans.

In 2021 Joie founded the Giving Boutique, LLC, a for-profit African American cultural retail boutique. Later the same year she began Prolifik Kreations, a graphic design, website, and marketing company. Through Prolifik Kreations she has helped nonprofits and for-profit businesses develop a structured online presence that has been integral to the growth of those local businesses. Most recently Prolifik Creations has assisted in establishing the Onslow County Black History Festival, which has continued to grow since its inception in 2022.

In 2022, she transitioned to Onslow County where she worked as an exceptional children teacher assistant for the Onslow County Schools and webmaster for the Monford Point Museum aboard Camp Johnson. She also joined the Onslow County NAACP Branch, where she helped automate the operation of the branch and implement data input and analysis. This earned her the 2023 North Carolina NAACP Branch Secretary of the Year Award. She continues to serve in this position currently.

In 2023, she began working as a Community Educator for Amerihealth Caritas, educating the community on the benefits of health insurance.

Joie is the mother of Brianna and Josiah and has two grandchildren Nala and Trace.
