North Carolina (NC) House Bill (HB) 37) No Homeowners Tax

What is NC HB 37? NC HB 37 exempts honorably discharged, one hundred percent permanently disabled veterans and their spouses from paying any homeowner property taxes on their primary residences.

Who Benefits: When passed the law will benefit all qualified veterans and spouses.

Our Position: NC NAACP ASVA, strongly supports of HB 37. We appreciate the effect the tax with quality of life for veterans and benefits diverse expenditures in their local communities.

Origin of NC HB 37: Mr. John Lucas and veteran leaders in Wilson, NC Veteran Outreach Group drafted and proposed HB 37 to the NC General Assembly in late 2022. The bill was read on the floor of the house, March 2023. The bill is presently is stalled in sub-committee awaiting appropriation.

Unite Effort: ASVA members can draw attention to NC HB 37:
1. Call your state legislator and senator, to voice your support of the bill.
2. Contact your County Commissioner. This is very important; some commissions site the loss of county revenue was reason to oppose HB 37.
